Western Saddles: 7 Inspection Tips For Buying Used

When you're looking for a quality western saddle, a used saddle can be a smart choice. The best saddles will last a lifetime with proper care. So, like luxury cars, a quality used saddle can be more aptly described as previously-owned. You can buy a lot more saddle for your money in the used category.

But buying used requires close inspection of the saddle prior to buying. A used saddle is bound to have some wear and some scuffs and scrapes. That's to be expected. What you're really looking for are structural problems. The following are the top 7 used saddle inspection tips.

1. Saddle Tree. The saddle tree is the foundation of a saddle, so if it's not solid nothing else matters. To test the tree, set the saddle on its fork, nose down. Press down hard on the cantle and twist, looking for bending which is an indication of a broken tree. A broken tree is a deal breaker. DO NOT purchase a saddle with a broken tree.

2. Leather Quality. High quality leather will be thick, soft, and supple. It has a much longer life, especially if well cared for. Low quality leather will be thin, often cracked, and will not keep its shape. Avoid buying used saddles with low quality leather. There's no bargain there.

3. Leather Condition. Check whether the jockeys and skirts lie flat or curl up. Curling is a sign of either poor quality leather or leather that is used-up. It's pretty much impossible to get curled leather to lie flat again. If the leather looks to be of good quality (thick, doesn't curl), but looks dried out, a good cleaning and conditioning can do wonders and bring back a lot of its luster.

4. Underside Fleece. Expect to find a good amount of wear and dirt here, but excessive wear may require having the fleece replaced which isn't cheap. Also, uneven wear can be a sign of a badly designed saddle that doesn't fit well and should be avoided.

5. Stitching. Check the stitching to make sure it's intact. Minor problems can be repaired, but a saddle with a lot of rotting and missing stitching should be avoided.

6. Surface. While a quality saddle can last a long time, the care it receives will impact its lifespan and its appearance. Saddles are made to be used and passing on a quality used saddle because of some scratches and scuff marks is a mistake. But, you'll have to determine what you can live with.

7. Parts Inventory. Do a check to see which parts might be missing. Most parts (stirrups, stirrup hobbles, billets, cinches) can be easily replaced (and many will prefer their own choices anyway), but missing parts should factor into the price.

Orange Bowl tickets offer football fans and travelers several options. Not only is the Orange Bowl one of the premier college bowl games every January, but the game itself is located in one of the most exotic travel destinations in the United States - Miami and South Florida. Game History

The first Orange Bowl was played in 1935, when Bucknell defeated Miami 26-0. For 33 years, the Orange Bowl was basically an at-large bowl game, in that the bowl committee chose the best two teams it could attract. However, the Orange Bowl started its history of tie-ins in 1968 when it began to host the champion of the former Big 8 Conference every season.

This tie-in remained in place until the late-1990s, when two things happened that change the landscape of the participants. The first was the formation of the Big 12 Conference, as the Big 8 basically added four teams from Texas after the now-defunct Southwestern Conference folded. This may or may not have had a direct effect on the teams invited, but another event in 1998 led to a shift in the games participants.

In 1998, the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was formed, and this changed the alignment for all of the major bowl games - the Orange Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl and ultimately the Rose Bowl. A system was put in place to manufacture an on-field championship game between the two top-ranked teams every season, and each of the four new BCS Bowls agreed to host the new national championship game on a rotating basis. Therefore, every four years, Orange Bowl tickets give fans the chance to watch the national championship decided on the field. As of now, when the Orange Bowl is not hosting the big game, they will host the ACC champion after that conferences recent additions.

Miami Dolphins 2006 Schedule

They won the last 6 games of the season and the media is all over themselves for the Miami Dolphins. Is this team really that great? Many analysts seem to think so. Aging in a Straightjacket? How to Avoid Being Old

I recently asked my newsletter subscribers "What kind of help do you need but are not finding in your quest to put old on hold". One respondent replied, "How to stay young forever."

Facetious answer? Doesn't matter. Let's be honest. Every woman (and probably every man) would like to stay young forever. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, most would agree that a dry, wrinkled, debilitated face and body is not appealing.

Women want to avoid becoming invisible. Men don't look at an old or older woman, they look beyond her for something more visually appealing. Older women miss being looked at; that's why they work so hard to stay attractive.

But not to worry -- you can stay young forever.

First, let's start with your face. You can buy beauty same as you buy a car on time. Cosmetic procedures of all kinds are becoming easier, safer and more affordable. When you look as good on the outside as you are healthy on the inside, nothing beats the "wow" effect of a successful cosmetic procedure. You are back in the game.

Next, your body reveals what and how much you eat and if you exercise. If you can't control food intake and are not motivated to exercise, you can always find a doctor who will suck fat out every inch of your body.

So much for physical beauty. It's yours if you want it. You can look any way you want to look for as along as you want. You can keep guys gasping in wanton appreciation forever.

But you and I know that staying young forever is not all about looking like a Barbi doll. There is something far more important.

It's about being young inside. It's being 40-50 with "insides" that function like a 25 year old. And the only way you are going to achieve that is by conscientious attention to how you treat your body day in and day out. There is no magic pill. No doctor can do it for you.

Having "young insides" includes having a young attitude. If you can control what goes on in your head, you have it made.

You have to work at having a young attitude because everything in our society militates against it. Once past midlife, tradition dictates that you think, act, dress, walk and talk in socially accepted ways. It's like a straightjacket; the older you get the tighter the straps on the straightjacket squeeze the young attitude out of you.

You have to hold onto a young attitude while you still have one. After it's lost it's tough to get it back.

Once you arrive at seniorhood, a young attitude is severely challenged. You begin to do "senior" things: you go to the senior center with like-minded friends, reminisce about the past, and trade stories about aches, pains and doctors. You go to bingo and the casino and do other socially accepted but stagnating things women your age are supposed to enjoy doing. By the way nothing wrong with bingo and all the rest. It's just "old" behavior. Young people don't do it.

You accept the culturally imposed straightjacket as "this is the way it's supposed to be." With each passing year, the straps on the straightjacket continue to tighten. Your reflection in the mirror gradually becomes that of a squeezed, drained, blank, little old lady.

Here's the antidote: Don't allow your young attitude to be hijacked by outdated cultural norms.

One of the best ways to avoid an old mindset is to choose friends very carefully. If you are 50 and associate primarily with other 50 year olds, you are going to adopt an old attitude before you know it. We learn from each other. We copy each other's behaviors; we adopt each other's thinking.

Even if you are the gutsiest, hippest role model in your group, straightjacket thinking will catch up with you because ultimately, it's easier to fit in than to be different.

I've said it before: To stay young mentally, regular association with young people is a must. But don't wait for them to come to you. Young people hang with other young people. They don't have the maturity to pursue and value older friendships.

If you still work and meet younger people, you are in luck. If you are retired, get a job that puts you in contact with young people. Go back to school or volunteer to mentor young people. I can't stress too much how important this is if you want to maintain a young attitude and outlook on life.

I know from personal experience the value of being around young people. You won't always like what you see or hear; you may be dismayed by some of their ideas and behaviors, but you will benefit from their energy, enthusiasm and openness. It will force you to rethink some of the social straightjacket thinking society foists on people as they progress through stages of aging past midlife.

A bonus: If you maintain a young attitude, and you are looking for a significant other, your chances of catching a "live one" escalate astronomically! Remember, youthfulness attracts youth; "oldness" attracts what is old.

1. Watch Christmas movies together: at the beginning of November get each family member to do some research to come up with 10 Christmas movies they would like to watch during the festive season. Get them to choose 5 modern time movies and 5 old-time movies. Then give each person 1 week to check out the local library, a video shop or do a Google search on the internet for Christmas movies. Once they have their choice write each choice onto a strip of paper and put it into a hat. Each family member takes it in turns to pull out one strip of paper out of the hat and then continue clock-wise for the next person's turn until ten movies have been chosen. Then write each move onto a sheet of paper in the order taken out from the hat and choose one night per week eg. a Saturday evening that all the family come together to watch the Christmas movie and then chat and discuss it after. A great idea is to ask each family member what they thought the message of the movie was for them and how they could incorporate the gift of the message they found in the movie into their Christmas this festive season.

2. Read some Christmas stories together: while time is at a premium in today's busy world reading a short inspirational Christmas story together as a family has many benefits. This is a great way to create some magic and close family time together. Here we can recapture the magic of an old-fashion Christmas. You can go to the local library and pick up an array of wonderful short Christmas story books. Make sure you get a copy of the classic A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. This is a classic for each Christmas. It is magical for both young and old and will transport you to a magical wonderland. This is quality time shared together that will be remembered loving as a cherished family tradition. This is a really economical way to create festive fun, meaning and togetherness.

3. Make Christmas ornaments together: back in the early days when Christmas ornaments first appeared they were made from hard cookies. This is inexpensive and easy to do and the whole family can be involved and have lots of fun in the process. There are some great Christmas decoration and cookie recipe books available. Go to the library and find some hard cookie recipes such as hard gingerbread. Buy the ingredients and look for some decorations to add such as color for the icing sugar, sprinkles and other cake or festive decorations like mistletoe. Purchase some string or ribbon to thread through the cookie to place on the tree once made. Organize a cooking day with the whole family getting together for around 2-3 hours of focused fun. Get everyone to take it in turns to stir the mixture from east to west 4 times then make a wish, then the next person clockwise takes their turn in stirring the mixture. Make it lots of fun. You are creating magic moments and lasting memories. Once cooked get each person to choose a base color for their icing so that everyone will know it relates to them. Then go ahead and decorate, encourage everyone to be creative and have fun. Lastly once dried, string them and hang them on the tree. Imagine each year the memories and stories of each decoration created by each family member!

Create an exciting and fun time this festive holiday season by adding new traditions to your family activities. As you can see you can do it very cost effectively. Even if you only incorporate one of the above you start the process of creating fun and cherished family memories together. Internet Authors aren't losers

Ask the majority of so-called 'gurus' to talk about business or self-improvement, and here's a funny thing. They start talking about sport. That's odd. Sport isn't the same as life. It's completely different. As Brian Tracey says, in sport you get three chances to hit the baseball and then you're out, but in life you can go up to the mound as many times as you've got the energy and the inclination, try hitting the ball, miss and still keep coming back for more. Or, to be precise, keep on swinging until you hit the home run. That's not allowed in the actual sport. They're very strict. Three strikes and you're out.

Yes, if sport is definite about one thing, it's this. It has rules. It says that you have to pick up the bat and try to hit the ball. It defines how many people can play at one time, where they stand and what they have to aim to do. That's not like life. In life you can choose anything as an aim, you don't have to aim for 'the goal' that everyone else is looking for. After all, don't forget, the only reason we have a new game called Rugby in England is that a young schoolboy picked up the ball in the game of soccer and started running with it. Wow, he invented a new game. They came up with some rules to allow for handling, and now England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and France battle it out every year for a metal cup (plus fame and honour). That's fine, but guess what would happen if someone decided they didn't like running in the same direction as their team mates now? No, they wouldn't have invented a new game. They'd be ruled out and sent to sit on the bench. Those are the rules.

Having one agreed goal gives the game a major advantage. You can tell who's doing well and who's doing badly. You can measure success. You can tell who's won. That's not like life. The glossy magazines are full of stories of rich and famous people who are having miserable lives, divorces and diets. Have they 'won'? Your neighbourhood is full of people, some of them in big houses and some in small. Who's winning? The only way you could tell is if you made it into a game, with the rule that the person in the biggest house is the winner. Of what? Well, the 'biggest house' game, of course. Okay, that's true. But it makes no sense. Would that 'league table' tell you if they were happy? Or if their kids were doing well and going to college? Or if they weren't ill?

In the world of publishing they've invented a game too. The rules are that authors have to send their manuscripts to posh people in smart offices in the middle of big cities, and these business people then decide which offerings get printed and put into bookshops and which don't. Any writer who gets taken on by a publisher is 'a winner', which means that every author without a publishing deal must be by the rules of the game a loser. But what if that writer puts their book up on the internet and signs up with a print-on-demand publisher? That's not in the rules! But they've got their book printed, and, if they pay extra, they can have an ISBN issued, which means it gets listed in catalogues. As far as readers are concerned, there's no difference. These shoppers go into a bookshop and ask for a particular author. If that person is an Internet Author, the bookshop is unlikely to have the book on its shelves, but they can order it from the publisher, (someone like Lulu.com). Even stranger, if a reader goes to an on-line bookstore like Amazon, they can flip through the novels on offer and not be able to tell which ones come from Traditional Publishers and which don't! If they order a book that's listed, they'll pay for it and have it delivered to their door whether it's 'won' the race to get to an old-style publisher or whether it hasn't.

Let's sum up. Authors who have their work published on the internet and their books available on the web only are considered to be 'losers' by Traditional Publishers and their cronies, traditional critics and journalists. These writers are people who have failed in the race to land a publishing contract. The fruits of that contract printed work, advertised books, sales are the same on the web, of course, and some 'successful' authors find this out too, when their books first go into bookshops and then end up on the publisher's own website as well! Internet Authors don't get the 'benefits' flowing from Traditional Publishers, but they do get published. They've scored a goal, they've won a point, it's just that they weren't playing the same game. By the same rules.

Which means they haven't 'lost'. The only way you could possibly think that is if you truly believe that you are playing the only game in town. No, Traditional Publishers are having to wake up to the fact that now there other people in the arena too. Trouble is, they aren't playing by the same rules.

Ethical Advertising or Not? PART 2 from a South African Perspective

In an article by Ted Lampert,President, Children Now "Childhood obesity fueled by marketing tactics" in the San Francisco Chronical April 27 2005.

"Every day our children are bombarded with advertisements -- quite often for products that are harmful to them. Each year, the average child sees about 40,000 commercials on television alone, according to communications professor Dale Kunkel of the University of Arizona; the majority of ads targeted at them are for candy, sugared cereal, soda and fast food.

While parents may actually be the ones paying the price for all of this advertising at the cash register, our children are paying with their health. In addition to the social stigma and psychological effects that overweight children often suffer, they are also significantly more likely than their peers to become afflicted with serious health problems such as asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea. In fact, the U.S. Surgeon General has identified overweight and obesity as "the fastest growing cause of disease and death in America."

Parents paying at the cash register is where the problem lies in my opinion, in my first article on this topic i stressed that the parents should take more responsibility. Kids are spoilt these days, given huge allowances and no action is taken to see where and how kids spend their money. "Mommy I want", and the kid gets. Yes marketing is persuasive but i still feel that this type of marketing can only work if the parents are suckered into it. Sure kids will see the the funky adverts for sugar and spice and all things nice but are the real persuasive tactics used by the kids to convince parents to buy the advertised products. Advertising is not the biggest enemy, they should take some of the blame. Ultimately parents need to be the ones more strict.

My dad always said to me after giving me my small allowance, "Son, get a purchase slip for everything you purchase". This way he could see what I was buying with my 'washing the car cash'. If i could not produce a slip that money would be deducted from my next allowance. Running kids like a business made sure that i made the correct choices.

The protection of our kids is vital for the future of a country, making sure they are mentally and physically fit is of the utmost importance. The role of advertisers should be more controlled, no more advertising of less than desirable products during kids programs is a start. The rest has to be up to the parents, this is ultimately where the buck stops.

Ted Lampert wrote,"Many advertisers prey upon childrens vulnerability by disguising their advertisements as online games or by using product placement to sneak them into prime-time shows. It is through television, computers and video games that perhaps the most insidious attempts to manipulate childrens eating habits occur. It is where food advertisers spend billions of dollars each year pushing unhealthy cereals, snacks and drinks through commercials and product placements aimed at children; where beloved cartoon characters shill for fast- food chains (such as Burger King's use of Teletubbies and SpongeBob); and where advertisements for cookies and candy are disguised as arcade-style games. It is where broadcasters and advertisers put their own financial well-being above the health of our children."

I don't mind my kids taking a liking to advertising tactics where Teletubies and SpongeBob is involved, they know that junk food only happens once a month. As young adults we lived our life on the wire all the time, but when my kids arrived the social responsibility towards them increased. Knowing the pitfalls of advertising, illegal use of drugs, alcohol and everything else that kids could come into contact with was high on 'the 101 of raising kids agenda'.

The increase in product competition the world over will see more and more sly and subtle advertising tactics being used. I personally do not see it changing to any other way. Why should any product not sell if it openly states that it is bad for your health, as in the case of branding on cigarette packs, people still buy 'smokes'. The good thing about cigarette companies in South africa they are not allowed to openly sponsor events or place their adverts in any public advertising material.

Take an important decision about what your kids come into contact with and use your own subtle tactics to steer them on the right path. We, as parents have a social responsibility towards them, keep in mind that your kids these days might fall victim to more sinister things than unhealthy burgers sold by SpongeBoB and the rest of his gang.

The New MLB Drug Testing Policy

If youve been following the news lately, no doubt youve heard about the new MLB drug testing policy. While you may have heard about the policy you might not understand the specific implications of the policy and how it may affect your favorite players and teams.

The new policy was brought about by threat of legislation from Congress. Under the policy tougher penalties for steroid use are implemented. Under the new policy the players are to be tested during their spring training along with at least one additional test during the regular season as well as being subject to random testing throughout the regular season.

Under the previous policy, penalties were much less severe. For example, for a first offense a player would be subject to a 10-day suspension and then 30 days for a second offense. A third offense would rate a 60 day suspension. The new policy calls for a 50 game suspension for the first offense and a 100 game offense for the second offense. For a third offense the player will receive a lifetime ban. Additionally, after the first offense the player will be subjected to amphetamines testing as well as steroid testing. This is the first time the problem of amphetamine use will have been addressed by a policy with MLB. Under the old policy a player could not receive a lifetime ban until he had been hit with at least a fifth offense.

Under the previous policy testing was also conducted on a much less frequent basis. Testing was conducted at the beginning of spring training with no additional testing through the regular season other than random testing. Under this policy, it was quite possible for a player to only be tested once from the beginning of spring training throughout the regular season.

The policy stipulated that players who tested positive for steroid the year prior to the new policy taking affect would be treated as first time offenders under the new policy if they should test positive again.

It should be noted that in the event a player is banned for life after a third offense under the new policy, a player can apply for permission to return to the game two years after receiving the ban. An independent arbitrator can be assigned for the purpose of reviewing the Commissioners decision in this instance.

The policy also takes a stab at possession of illegal steroid use in addition to use of illegal steroids. Players convicted for the possession of illegal steroids are subject to a 60-80 game suspension for the first offense and 120 games to one year for a second offense. A lifetime ban is on the table for a third offense. Players who are convicted of steroid distribution face tougher suspensions for the first offense and are subject to a lifetime ban after the first offense.

Penalties for amphetamine use are slightly less severe than for steroid use. Mandatory follow-up testing is dictated for the first offense with a 25 game suspension for the second offense. An 80 game suspension will be given for the third positive test and at the fourth offense the penalty is left up to the Commissioner, which could include a lifetime ban.

Santa Catalina Island, located 22 Miles west of Los Angeles, is America's greatest island retreat, and best kept vacation secret.

It is close enough that you can get there by a one-hour ferry ride, but also far enough away to feel totally separated from the mainland altogether, giving you the full experience of a tropical resort isolated in the middle of the Pacific.

There is one major resort town, the City of Avalon, where you will arrive by any commercial water route. Once there, the Island has 76 square miles of adventure in every form waiting for you, from mountain climbing to scuba diving, all within easy reach of your luxury accommodations.

Avalon is a city that was literally created for the lone purpose of being an exotic tourist destination. Even now, over a hundred years later, the beautiful city still excels at this vision. There are no office buildings there; no government buildings, no people employed for any reason other than the tourism trade, and the supporting industries (like groceries and utilities) that are needed to support the town. This makes the entire island an ideal paradise retreat for escaping the problems we face in our modern world.

So, what is there to do on the Catalina Islands, CA?

In the summertime the most famous tour is their world-famous 'flying fish tour,' where your boat pulls up alongside a swarm of flying fish feeding at night! However, those who visit for short trips always go home and share their pictures from the submarine ride, which takes you six feet under water into a kelp bed where you'll be surrounded by thousands of beautiful fish in every direction... It is truly a unique experience for all ages.

If you're into the shopping scene, you'll be pleasantly surprised by Avalon's shopping district. I won't exaggerate here and lead you to believe that it rivals the best shopping values found on Earth, but the location and surrounding embellishments are not to be missed. -And they simply can't be duplicated elsewhere! Imagine a hundred or so small, cozy shops all nestled among your hotel and favorite restaurants in a multi-tiered, labyrinthine fashion with cobblestones underneath, interesting architecture everywhere, palm trees above, all surrounded by the most fragrant smells from every direction, and all right by the beach and your room. The way they fit so many quality shops, restaurants, and hotels in so tight, yet still giving you enough room to not feel crowded is nothing short of magical.

Since you don't need any other transportation that your own feet in tiny Avalon, you can literally keep all of your bags in the hotel room and just walk between them all, in less time than you'd expect. The ideal setup of the main strip along the Avalon Beach is one of the leading reasons that Catalina is such a paradise.

The giant, art-deco Casino building, right on the beach, was built in the roaring 20s as a dance hall & movie theater. ("Casino" didn't mean gambling yet when they named it.) Easily within walking distance of your hotel, this giant, round building that sits up on the north end of the Avalon strip is the most obvious landmark in Avalon. It offers movies, tours, and there's even a museum in the basement, detailing the whole fascinating history of Catalina Island.

Las Vegas Schools Open New Schools and Hire New Teachers

New Schools Equal New Hires

Las Vegas Schools have ten new schools opening for the 2006-2007 school year. Nine are brand new schools, while one is a replacement of Rancho High School. This is part of a long term plan to meet student population demands and create modern facilities. The schools opening in August are six elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. The new elementary schools are Hayden Elementary, Schorr Elementary, Steele Elementary, Thompson Elementary, Ward Elementary and Wright Elementary. The middle schools are Johnston and Tarkanian and the high schools are the new Legacy High School and the replacement Rancho High School. All these new schools create the need for more teacher and support staff. With this in mind Las Vegas Schools is engaging in a very active recruitment process including holding a recruitment fair this summer to be held at the Desert Rose Adult High School. In the area of academic staff Las Vegas Schools are hiring over one thousand new staff and teachers. But academic staff are not the only ones needed to keep a school running. These new member schools of Las Vegas Schools are also in need of bus drivers, transportation aides, vehicle mechanics and substitute food service workers.

The New Rancho High School

The newest edition to Las Vegas Schools is the placement of the old Rancho High School. The new design may seem surprisingly familiar to the students. The new Rancho High School is based on the same design used in most suburban shopping malls. The new 330,000 square foot school was built on the site of the former schools athletic field. The old school will be torn down later in the school year. The new Rancho High School follows a two story mall design and the total building cost was around $75 million. The money came from the Las Vegas Schools $3.5 billion capital improvement plan approved by voters in 1998. The new design did cause a little concern but it actually creates a very functional and friendly space which can add to the success of a school. The Rancho High School principal plans to divide the school into four distinct sections each with its own assistant principal and student services. These sections will possibly be divided based on grade level or program type. Rancho High School is well known for its magnet programs that aim towards the medical and aviation fields. These magnet programs will have new offices and special facilities on the new Ranch High School campus. The ROTC will also have a new area. The Rancho High School ROTC is one of the largest in the U.S. and the facility will be able to accommodate over five hundred students. The Ranch High School replacement is part of a long term replacement plan by Las Vegas schools. The plan was to replace five existing schools Sunrise Acres Elementary, Wendell Williams Elementary and Rancho High School are the first three with Booker Elementary and Virgin Valley Elementary to follow.

Rancho High School is Second to Have Mall Design

Rancho High School is the second Las Vegas School to have the mall design. The first was at Buffalo and Grand Teton. The mall design creates a new and unique space that provides natural light and fresh air to the classrooms while creating a more secure environment than a conventional school design. Both the current principal and the president of the construction company building the new school are former Rancho High School graduates, who are extremely pleased with the modern replacement.

CSI (Season 2) DVD Review

Nominated for 20 Emmys and 6 Golden Globes, including Best TV Series - Drama, CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) quickly rose to become the number one show on television following its Fall 2000 premiere. CSI focuses on the Las Vegas Police Department's Crime Scene Investigation nightshift unit headed by Gil Grissom (William Petersen), a quirky outsider whose obsessive quest for the facts and dedication to his work dominates his life. The CSI team is composed of a number of individuals with differing backgrounds and personalities - single mother Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) specializes in blood-splatter analysis, the highly competitive Nick Stokes (George Eads) specializes in hair and fiber analysis, recovering gambling addict Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan) specializes in audio/visual analysis, and the rambunctious Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) specializes in materials and element analysis. The CSI (Season 2) DVD features a number of dramatic episodes including the season premiere "Burked" in which Grissom and company are called in to investigate the death of a high roller and known drug addict found dead in his own home. With drug paraphernalia on the premises, detectives initially suspect an overdose, but further probing leads them to believe the man was restrained by duct tape and forced to ingest lethal amounts of drugs Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "And Then There Were None" in which Grissom investigates a casino heist that left several innocent bystanders shot while Catherine and Sara investigate a murder in the rural desert region, and "Stalker" in which a stalker somehow infiltrates a heavily secured home and murders his victim, prompting the CSI to take over the investigation

How to buy a Boat ?

If you are planning to buy a boat then there are many things you must consider before actually buying a boat. First of all, you must understand your needs. You have to decide which type of boat suits you the best. The type of water you will be boating on and the climate are other important considerations. It is always good to do a background check of your favorite boat in advance, through your friends, internet researching, Manufactures website etc. If you have decided to opt for a used boat then it is better to Coast Guard and ask for information about manufacturers' recalls for that particular model. If a recall has been issued, ask the owner if the repair has been performed. If not, find out if the period of recall is still in effect. One important tip is to check the seller's proof of ownership. If the price is a "steal," the boat may very well be stolen. So

5. Are the hoses, belts and fittings cracked or brittle?

6. Pull a spark plug and see if it appears relatively new, or burnt and poorly gapped. (This will provide an indication of how well serviced the engine is.)

7. Is there a white chalky residue on the engine or drive? (This may indicate that it has been running hot.)

8. Check the engine's oil condition and level. (If the oil looks milky, water may have entered, indicating the possibility of serious mechanical problems.)

9. Check gear case oil.

10. Are the sacrificial anodes on the drive in good shape, or should they have been replaced long ago?

11.Are there signs that the drive, rudder or propellers have hit submerged items?

12. Look for signs of cavitations damage on the propellers, which is indicative of poor performance.

13. Check for broken engine mounts.

Then write each move onto a sheet of paper in the order taken out from the hat and choose one night per week eg. a Saturday evening that all the family come together to watch the Christmas movie and then chat and discuss it after. A great idea is to ask each family member what they thought the message of the movie was for them and how they could incorporate the gift of the message they found in the movie into their Christmas this festive season.

2. Read some Christmas stories together: while time is at a premium in today's busy world reading a short inspirational Christmas story together as a family has many benefits. This is a great way to create some magic and close family time together. Here we can recapture the magic of an old-fashion Christmas. You can go to the local library and pick up an array of wonderful short Christmas story books. Make sure you get a copy of the classic A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. This is a classic for each Christmas. It is magical for both young and old and will transport you to a magical wonderland. This is quality time shared together that will be remembered loving as a cherished family tradition. This is a really economical way to create festive fun, meaning and togetherness.

3. Make Christmas ornaments together: back in the early days when Christmas ornaments first appeared they were made from hard cookies. You are creating magic moments and lasting memories. Once cooked get each person to choose a base color for their icing so that everyone will know it relates to them. Then go ahead and decorate, encourage everyone to be creative and have fun. Lastly once dried, string them and hang them on the tree. Imagine each year the memories and stories of each decoration created by each family member!

Even if you only incorporate one of the above you start the process of creating fun and cherished family memories together. Why Your Writing Time Is Worth More Than Money

I used to think that everything in my life was geared around saving money. Even when it came to my writing I would rather waste time doing things the long way rather than spend money that would help speed my career along.

Bu then something happened that made me realise that my writing time is worth far more than money and now my time is much more profitable.

The thing that happened was Nick Daws Quick Cash Writing course. Id been receiving Nick Daws Ewriter Newsletter for a few months when he started mentioning his Quick Cash Writing course. I took a look at his sales page for this product and saw that it came with a 60-day money back guarantee and that the course promised that I could earn 30-times the cost of the course by the time Id finished it.

So I reluctantly parted with my cash and downloaded the book. Once I started reading it I couldnt wait to get started and began the course with great gusto.

By the time I was halfway through the course I realised that the initial promise of earning 30-times the cost by the time Id completed the course was wrong because Id already done it.

I was totally hooked on this course because it made me start writing, told me where to submit my work and kept me writing more. The cheques were rolling in and I was extremely happy.

So then I decided to try Nick Daws other course, Write Any Book in 28 Days or Less. Again I began the course with the same amount of gusto and 4 weeks later I sat looking at my manuscript which was pretty amazing considering I didnt even know what I was going to write about when I started. Since then my manuscript has been edited, finalised and has now been sent to my agent.

But then I made the ultimate and most expensive purchase and it wasnt even downloadable or related to writing in any way. I bought an iRobot called Roomba and it runs round my house on its own and vacuums the carpets, rugs and floors while I write.

Does Roomba make me lazy? No, I dont think so. Vacuuming in our house takes a long time because with 3 pets there are a lot of animal hairs around that can be difficult to pick up, but Roomba is built to be especially good with picking up pet hairs and so it is. Ive now gained extra hours to write each week.

But the whole point Im trying to make here is that in my opinion, my writing time is more important than money. In fact Ive discovered that, through careful selection of products, the more money Ive spent the more Ive earned.
